re: Big Dick Contest

Honestly surprised i'm the only one running 3 screens. It was amazing for WoW, and a lot of you have a better PC than me.

The one thing I never understand...

People spend hundreds on certain items, BUT go cheap when it comes to Memory.
People seem to only get 8GB. When for $60, you could double that to 16GB and be covered to run anything.

Now if we are talking Performance Memory (e.g. Crucial Ballistix), that is a different story.

In my own case, when I ordered my iMac, I ordered it with just 4GB.
Because Apple charges a heavy price premium for their memory.
I knew I wanted at least 8GB of memory, so as soon as I placed my order, I went to Crucial.com

Apple iMacs have four memory slots.
My iMac shipped with 2GB X 2.
I remember another 2GB X 2 was about $55, and I decided to go with 4GB X 2 which was $90.
So for $35 extra, I have a total of 12GB instead of 8GB.

Of course, today, that same 4GB X 2 is only $55 instead of $90

You really don't need to go above 8GB imo. I have never needed more than that.

See what you stated there "really don't", that means for most things.

If for $60 you can double your memory, or for $35 add another 4GB, why not ?
That amount of money is nothing, especially when someone spends $1500 or more on a system.

Keep in mind, if you need to run VirtualBox/VMWare Fusion/etc. to test environments, the more RAM the better.
Memory is cheap, the more the better.
Even in the simple case of playing an MMO, while PhotoShop is open, when encoding video to burn.

As a side note, if you are buying a new system, remember different RAM limits of a specific OS.

Mac OS X Lion - 10.7 (only 64-bit)
16TB - Yes, that's over 16,000 GB

Windows 7 - 32-bit version
4GB

Windows 7 - 64-bit versions
Starter: 8GB
Home Basic: 8GB
Home Premium: 16GB
Professional: 192GB
Enterprise: 192GB
Ultimate: 192GB

True but some of the larger and faster dimms have a CL of 10 or 11. My 8 gigs are running at 1600 and have a CL of 7. I am not positive but I still think they run faster. Now if they decide to make 4 gig sticks at CL7 then I will purchase.

re: Big Dick Contest

Yeah from what I've seen sticks bigger than 4GB tend to be a slower CAS. Also I've never needed more then 8 gigs. That's with running a bunch of Adobe apps (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, etc). No game has come close to using that much, even when I was triple boxing wow. Building projects using Visual Studio, running SQL. Even running 3 virtual machines didn't max it out. 8GB is the sweet spot. And what I saw of the beta your processor is much more important. I'm running an older quad-core 2.6 Intel chip and it had all four cores at full. I didn't notice any lag or anything, and I'm sure some of it is debugging info and non-optimized code.

I have the CPU OC'd right now to only 3.8GHz. Vid Card is OC'd to 850MHz too. I am very careful of the Temps my shit is running at when I OC and I only just started a week ago and have been out of the game for a long time and haven't found much good intel on how hot shit can run. Any advice would be welcome.

Also I went with the two Raptors in raid 0 since I have experience with them. The SSD's looked nice but I was a little worried about them and some of the reviews I had come across.

Looking as a second 580 GTX for SLI just not sure if I wana dump the cash yet.
